Cranbourne — One of the most marginal state seats in Victoria has a huge Indian born/Indian ancestry population. With Victorian state elections not far away, the area is seeing lot of high profile political visits from both side of politics.

They include Former Australian Prime Minister Hon. Tony Abbott, and Victorian Opposition Leader Hon. Matthew Guy who recently visited Cranbourne, and made extended efforts to engage with local Indian community over there.

Commented local resident, and Former Ministerial Adviser Mr Nitin Gupta, “I think it’s a great initiative by the City of Casey to organise a Holi event in Cranbourne. But the Victorian Indian community in Cranbourne area is huge. And we need much bigger events for Holi and Diwali in Cranbourne area. Leading up to the Victorian State elections, I would expect some sort of announcement from both major parties announcing financial incentives to help bring major Holi and Diwali celebrations in Cranbourne area.”

Recently the State Opposition Leader Hon. Matthew Guy has also pledged his support for an Indian community hub in Cranbourne area. The funding, budget allocations, timeline and more details about his plans are still awaited, but Mr Guy has made it clear he wants the local Indian community in Cranbourne to have a say on what they want.

Selandra Rise SC is quite popular with local community in Cranbourne area. Various prominent Indians like HH Prince Lakshyaraj Sing Mewar (Prince of Udaipur); Industrialist and Congress Politician Mr Naveen Jindal; Swami Ramdev (Patanjali Group); South Indian actress/politician Mrs Khushbu Sundar; IT maverick and INC Adviser Dr Sam Pitroda; and various others have in recent times visited this iconic Shopping Centre in Cranbourne area. While Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and his family are regular visitors to the Selandra Rise SC, as they own a house in the residential estate next door to the shopping centre.
